Graduate Programs in Philanthropic Studies

Aid your career development by earning your Doctorate Degree in Philanthropic Studies from the School of Philanthropy at Indiana University. A Ph.D from the School of Philanthropy will prepare you as a researcher or scholar, and for leadership roles within philanthropy, higher education and nonprofit organizations. The flexibility within this degree uniquely addresses philanthropy but also suits your individual interests allowing you to convert your knowledge into social action.

• Forces impacting giving and volunteering in families over time
• Costs and benefits of fund raising campaigns

Graduate students are required to complete a 90-hour program that includes:

• 15 credits in core philanthropy courses
• 12 credits in a minor
• 9 credits in research methods
• 6 credits in electives
• 18 credits dissertation

This program is only available to students who have completed a Master's Degree. Students may transfer up to 30 credit hours of relevant coursework. The program is generally completed by full-time students.
