It is one of four required courses for the new Certificate in Nonprofit Executive Leadership.
Course Description
Through a unique collaboration, this innovative and affordable continuing education course will help you meet your professional goals. This seminar is designed for mid-level and upper-level nonprofit leaders and those aspiring to leadership positions in all areas of the nonprofit sector. The seminar includes topics of particular interest to fundraising professionals. The course will be held on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University-Indianapolis (IUPUI) in downtown Indianapolis.
One of the biggest challenges facing the nonprofit sector today is the quality of its management and board. This seminar will provide participants with a strong foundation in the legal and managerial responsibilities of nonprofit organizations by engaging topics related to governance, accountability, collaboration, and leadership. This two day course will address:
- Leading, managing and motivating volunteers and staff
- Collaboration activities and partner relations
- Watchdog organizations and the regulatory environment
- Governance models, trends and options
- Roles and responsibilities of boards of directors
- Public accountability and ethical leadership
Facilitator: For 15 years, Beth Gazley, Ph.D. served in management and fundraising roles in higher education, health and advocacy organizations. She is Associate Professor of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University-Bloomington and Associate Professor of Philanthropic Studies at IUPUI. Beth regularly conducts board training and development workshops for nonprofits, and also consults for the American Society of Association Executives and Good360 (formerly Gifts in Kind International). Beth researches and publishes on nonprofit management capacity, governance, nonprofit-government relations, and volunteerism. She sits on the board of Monroe County Community Organizations Active in Disaster, and is past president of Stone Belt Arc Inc., one of south-central Indiana’s largest developmental disabilities social service providers.
