The Fund Raising School, an international leader in fundraising training and professional development, and the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University, a nationally ranked leader in nonprofit management education, are pleased to announce this brand new course offering.

Course Description

Through a unique collaboration, this new high quality, innovative and affordable continuing education course will help you meet your professional goals. This seminar is designed for mid-level and upper-level nonprofit leaders and those aspiring to leadership positions in all areas of the nonprofit sector. The seminar includes topics of particular interest to fundraising professionals. No background in financial management is required. The course will be held on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University-Indianapolis (IUPUI) in downtown Indianapolis.

Financial position, robustness, and flexibility are all areas that are vitally important for effective nonprofit leadership. Leaders in nonprofit organizations must understand the drivers of these components of financial strength in order to be successful in pursuing their organizational missions. This seminar will provide participants with a strong foundation in the following topics:

  • Dashboard financial objectives
  • Differences between businesses and nonprofits
  • Board dynamics
  • Financial strategies and revenue mix
  • Funding dynamics and the economy
  • Financial statements and financial ratio analysis
  • Budgeting, long-range financial planning, and policies
  • Cash flow management
  • Liability and risk management

Facilitator: John Zietlow, D.B.A., CTP is the co-author of Financial Management for Nonprofit Organizations (2007) and Cash & Investment Management for Nonprofit Organizations (2007). He has been serving, researching, training, consulting, and writing in the nonprofit field for over twenty-five years. Dr. Zietlow is currently a professor of finance at Malone University (Canton, OH), and he also teaches graduate nonprofit financial management at Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI).

CFRE Education Points

Full participation in Financial Analysis for Nonprofit Leaders is applicable for 8.75 points in Category 1.B - Education of the CFRE International application for initial certification and/or recertification.
