Following the Asian earthquake on October 8, 2005, the Center on Philanthropy began tracking charitable support from the United States for relief efforts in Pakistan. The file here* presents information about U.S. philanthropic organizations and the amount of gifts received for relief efforts from individuals, corporations, and foundations. It does not include the aid delivered or pledged by the U.S. government. It includes information gathered from publicly reported sources, such as news media accounts and Web sites and e-mail confirmations from organizations’ staff. The listing does not contain every organization raising funds for relief. The list is not an endorsement for any agency or entity listed. In addition the list contains U.S. corporate donations to the relief efforts when that corporation donated directly to a non-U.S.-based relief organization, such as the International Red Cross or the President’s Fund in Pakistan. These corporate funds still represent U.S. private donations, even though they were directed to non-U.S. entities. The tally includes the amount reported in cash donations, donations made from organizations' reserves, in-kind gifts, in-kind description, fundraising goals, and the source of information. Again, organization totals represent total U.S. private contributions to the Asian earthquake relief and recovery efforts by individuals, corporations, and foundations.
