WOMEN & PHILANTHROPY TO BE TOPIC OF THE CENTER ON PHILANTHROPY AT INDIANA UNIVERSITY’S 20TH ANNUAL SYMPOSIUM

Top Nonprofit Practitioners, Scholars, and Sector Leaders to Discuss the Role of Women in the Philanthropic Landscape November 13-14

INDIANAPOLIS—“Moving Women’s Philanthropy Forward: Influences, Intent, Impact” will be the theme of the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University’s 20th annual symposium to be held November 13-14 in Indianapolis. The event will bring together leading nonprofit and forprofit professionals, scholars, and leaders to reflect on the roles and engagement of women in the nonprofit sector.

Interest in understanding how and why women give has grown exponentially. Through innovative structures such as women’s funds, giving circles, and other initiatives, women around the world are leveraging their intellectual, social, and financial capital for the common good.

This year’s symposium will begin with a keynote speech given by Lisa Witter, co-author of The She Spot: Why Women are the Market for Changing the World and How to Reach Them and Chief Operating Officer of Fenton Communications. The event will end with a conversation with philanthropists Julie Fisher Cummings and her daughter Caroline Cummings on passing the philanthropic legacy from one generation to the next.

Other keynote speakers during the symposium will include Ms. Kimberly B. Davis, Vice President, Global Philanthropy, and President, JPMorgan Chase Foundation and Ms. Anne Mosle, Vice President for Programs, W.K. Kellogg Foundation.

Participants will also have the opportunity to attend breakout sessions led by experts on women and philanthropy who will share experiences, inform professionals and reveal the latest research findings. These small-group discussions will address timely issues such as the societal impacts of various types of women’s funding networks, women’s influence in giving to education, global giving, developing and recognizing women as leaders, the real impact of collective giving, strategies for the engagement of younger donors, and philanthropy among women of color. Among the breakout presenters will be:

  • Ms. Donna Callejon, Chief Operating Officer, GlobalGiving
  • Dr. Barbara Ibrahim, Director, John D. Gerhart Center for Philanthropy and Civic Engagement, The American University in Cairo
  • Ms. Deborah Richardson, Chief Program Officer, Women’s Funding Network
Symposium registration is $500. Reservations will be accepted until the conference is filled. For more information visit the Center’s Web site or call 317-278- 8990.
