INDIANAPOLIS—The Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University’s Lake Institute on Faith & Giving has announced its first Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship, a $22,000 award which will go to a student whose research focuses on religion and philanthropy. Applications must be received by the Center on Philanthropy by January 15, 2008.
The fellowship will be given to a scholar who is enrolled in a Ph.D. program within the United States and whose primary research focus is in the area of religion and philanthropy or faith and giving. The recipient will not have received any other grants or financial awards for writing the dissertation. The $22,000 will be awarded to the recipient for the academic year 2008-2009. He or she will have fulfilled all pre-dissertation requirements by December 31, 2007, and will expect to complete his or her dissertation by no later than July 2010.
As a program of the Center on Philanthropy, the Lake Institute aspires to foster understanding of the intricate and vast connections between people’s faiths and their experience of generosity, and to create a public forum to discuss the ways in which faith inspires and informs giving. The new fellowship will encourage and enable an emerging scholar to investigate a relevant and related important question or issue.
