Larry Smith is director of the Third Millennium Initiative at the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University.
This initiative involves the development of emerging non-profit leaders – and the support of existing ones – through research, technical assistance, peer networking, convenings, and applied principles. Millennium is especially focused on expanding leadership opportunities for youth, women, and people of color in the philanthropic sector. Prior to joining the Center, Larry spent 11 years with Cummins Inc. and one year with the Hudson Institute
Due to his strong interest in community service, Larry serves on the boards of several non-profit organizations, including the Madame Walker Theatre Center, The Oaks Academy, and BOS Community Development Corporation. He is also an ordained minister with First Free Will Baptist Church of Indianapolis.
Larry resides in Indianapolis and is married with two daughters. He earned a BA in history from Williams College, and an MS in management from Stanford Business School.
