Dwight F. Burlingame, Ph.D., is associate executive director and director of academic programs at the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University and a professor of Philanthropic Studies and Public and Environmental Affairs.
He holds degrees from Moorhead State University, the University of Illinois, and Florida State. He received the CFRE credential in 1989. He is an active member of the AFP Research Council and ARNOVA, where he served as Treasurer for five years. He is currently co-editor of Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly (NVSQ), the official journal of ARNOVA.
Dr. Burlingame has authored and co-authored eight books, over 45 articles, and over 100 book reviews. He is the editor of Philanthropy in America: A Comprehensive Historical Encyclopedia, published in three volumes by Clio Press, 2004. Other works include "Corporate Fundraising," a chapter in The Nonprofit Handbook, 3rd Ed., Wiley, 2001; Critical Issues in Fund Raising, Ed. Wiley, 1997, Corporate Philanthropy at the Crossroads, 1996, co-authored with Dennis Young, available from Indiana University Press; and Capacity for Change? The Nonprofit World in the Age of Devolution, IU Center on Philanthropy, 1996. Library Fundraising: Models for Success was published in 1995 by American Library Association. Dr. Burlingame is active in the nonprofit community as a board member and volunteer, a frequent speaker, consultant, and author on topics relating to philanthropy, nonprofit organizations, libraries, and development.
