Campbell & Company Research Fellow to Examine Giving in U.S.
First-ever partnership offers doctoral candidate unique research opportunities

INDIANAPOLIS—Campbell & Company, a Chicago-based national philanthropic consulting firm offering a full range of fundraising services to charitable organizations, has developed a model partnership with the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University. Through a sponsorship agreement, Campbell & Company is funding a stipend for the Campbell & Company Research Fellow, a doctoral student in the Philanthropic Studies program at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, where the Center is headquartered.

Takayuki (Taka) Yoshioka is the first Campbell & Company Research Fellow. Mr. Yoshioka comes to the Center on Philanthropy after completing a master’s degree in public policy at Georgetown University,” said Gene Tempel, executive director of the Center on Philanthropy.  “His interest in combining advanced academic work and practical experience demonstrates the very best qualities needed for leadership and knowledge-development for the nonprofit sector.”

Mr. Yoshioka’s research interests include the application of organizational resources to support advocacy work by nonprofits and tax policies’ implications for charitable giving. He earned an M.A. degree in media and governance from Keio University in Tokyo, Japan, and worked for four years in leadership positions at a performing arts organization in that city.

“Campbell & Company is thrilled to have the opportunity to sponsor a promising scholar of charitable giving,” said Edith Falk, president of the firm.  “We anticipate having exciting new information to share with our clients and colleagues as a result of Mr. Yoshioka’s analyses.”

At the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University, Mr. Yoshioka will focus on the initial courses in the Ph.D. program in Philanthropic Studies and apply his skills to detailed analysis of data generated in the Center on Philanthropy Panel Study, a biennial survey of more than 7,800 households that gathers information about giving and volunteering.

The Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University, a part of the Indiana University School of Liberal Arts at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, is a leading academic center dedicated to increasing the understanding of philanthropy and improving its practice through research, teaching, public service and public affairs programs in philanthropy, fundraising, and management of nonprofit organizations.

Campbell & Company brings together people, ideas and technology to impact capital through tailored fundraising, executive search, and marketing and communications services. Our nationally based consultants develop strong partnerships with clients, helping forge lasting donor relationships.  Since 1976, Campbell & Company has helped over 700 institutions meet the challenges of the philanthropic marketplace.
