WOMEN'S PHILANTHROPY INSTITUTE TO BECOME PROGRAM OF CENTER ON PHILANTHROPY AT INDIANA UNIVERSITY
Join Forces To Strengthen Philanthropy Education for Women, Philanthropists and Nonprofits

INDIANAPOLIS-The highly regarded Women's Philanthropy Institute (WPI) will become a program of the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University early next year in an effort to further strengthen philanthropy education for women philanthropists and those who encourage these increasingly vital donors.

The WPI will move Jan. 1, 2004, from its current headquarters in Rochester, Mich., to the Center's home on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.

"We are delighted about the possibilities this new relationship offers in complementing the Center's work and expanding it in exciting new directions," said Eugene R. Tempel, executive director of the Center on Philanthropy. "Women have historically played crucial roles in their communities through their often-unheralded philanthropy. WPI's efforts to illuminate and foster women's philanthropy are widely recognized. We look forward to supporting the organization's mission throughout the Center."

Founded in 1997, the WPI educates, encourages and inspires women to employ philanthropy to affect global change through innovative programs and a dynamic speaker's bureau. The new partnership promises to enlarge the organization's reach.

"We could not ask for a stronger partner with which to join forces as we continue to bolster women's philanthropy," WPI Board Chair Cheryl L. Altinkemer said of the Center. "We believe that the women's philanthropy movement will gain momentum as the WPI maintains the important work of enlightening women about how to make a difference in their communities."

WPI also offers nonprofit organizations, financial advisors, and volunteer fundraisers information to assist them in encouraging women to become donors.

"WPI has established a very valuable base of knowledge in this critical area of philanthropy and donor education," said Timothy L. Seiler, director of The Fund Raising School and Public Service at the Center. "Combining its understanding of these issues with the Center's expertise in providing training, programs, seminars and workshops will give the Center the opportunity to expand its donor education programming."

The Center on Philanthropy is a leading academic center dedicated to increasing the understanding of philanthropy and improving its practice through research, teaching, public service and public affairs programs in philanthropy, fundraising, and management of nonprofit organizations.
