CENTER ON PHILANTHROPY AT INDIANA UNIVERSITY TO CONTINUE RESEARCH AND WRITING OF GIVING USA
AAFRC Trust for Philanthropy Awards Three-year Contract

INDIANAPOLIS-The Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University will continue to research and write Giving USA , the leading annual source for information on the nation's charitable giving, published by the AAFRC Trust for Philanthropy. The Trust and the Center have agreed to a new three-year contract.

The Center, headquartered at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, will research and write the 2002, 2003, and 2004 editions of Giving USA as well as three of the four AAFRC Trust's Giving USA Updates in each of those years.

"For many years, Giving USA has provided the nonprofit sector with estimates of charitable giving that are critical to work done in the field," said Leo P. Arnoult, CFRE, chair of the AAFRC Trust for Philanthropy, which produces Giving USA. "We will continue to make improvements to the annual report to add value to the information produced year after year as we rely on the collective talents of the Trust and of Center researchers."

The partnership between the Center and the AAFRC Trust began last year as the Center researched and wrote the 2001 edition of Giving USA and three of the four Updates .

"We appreciate the AAFRC Trust's confidence in the Center and the important contribution the Trust makes to the nonprofit sector through Giving USA ," said Eugene R. Tempel, executive director of the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University. "We look forward to continuing our relationship with the Trust to offer information that will help inform the public, practitioners, and policymakers."

" Our partnership with the Center has given us access to quality research in order to continue the tradition of making Giving USA a reliable resource for the nonprofit community,"said John J. Glier, chair of the American Association of Fundraising Council (AAFRC) Inc.

The AAFRC was founded in 1935 to advance professional, ethical standards in philanthropic fundraising consulting and to promote philanthropy. Giving USA, The Annual Report on Philanthropy, was first published by the AAFRC in 1955.  In 1985, three association leaders - Arthur D. Raybin, John Grenzebach, and Charles E. Lawson - incorporated the AAFRC Trust for Philanthropy to carry out and expand a number of the public service goals of the association.  The Trust publishes Giving USA and supports research and education in philanthropy.  The AAFRC continues to provide financial support, expertise and leadership to the Trust and works in partnership with it to advance philanthropy and promote ethics in the fundraising profession.

The Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University is the largest and most comprehensive academic center dedicated to increasing the understanding of philanthropy and improving its practice in the United States and internationally. Through research, teaching, professional development and training, public service and public affairs initiatives, the Center on Philanthropy is increasing knowledge about philanthropy and developing the next generation of nonprofit professionals, scholars and philanthropists.
