Lake Distinguished Visitor

The Distinguished Visitor’s Program serves two purposes. First, it provides us with the opportunity to bring to the IUPUI campus and the city of Indianapolis scholars who have done reputable work in the field of religion and philanthropy. The Lake Distinguished Visitor may spend from one day to one month on campus, leading seminars, giving lectures and engaging university faculty from the various university disciplines in conversation on issues related to religion and philanthropy. Second, it provides us with an opportunity to bring to our city visionary philanthropic practitioners to share their stories with community leaders and local philanthropists.

Faith & Fundraising

In congregations and faith-based organizations, money is often a taboo subject. Yet fundraising is a vital part of securing the resources needed to sustain the work of faith in this world—and giving is an important means by which believers can express their faith. This course has been developed in partnership between the Lake Institute on Faith & Giving and The Fund Raising School.

Participants have called it “enlightening”, “candid”, and “extremely helpful.”

This course has been immensely helpful to me. The church has neither offered me this kind of training nor expected it of me. I have felt stymied in fulfilling my current responsibilities by this lack of knowledge, experience, and confidence. I appreciate the instructors' openness to questions and the opportunity for individual consultation about specifics for our context . . . [It] opens up a whole new realm of possibility.
-Rev. Rebecca Youngblood, Executive Director
Center for Ministry, Millsaps College (Jackson, MS)

I made my first ask ever today… WOW! It felt surprisingly good, positive and natural. It feels good to know I believe deeply in what I will be asking support for: the mission of the church . . . [This course offers] a lot of new concepts, carefully and patiently explained.
-Rev. Walter Smedley, Rectpr
The Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross (Dunn Loring, VA)

The Resource Inventory makes this event worth every minute and every dollar.
-Rev. Stephen Sterner, Executive Minister
Local Church Ministries (Cleveland OH)
